Big ideas man

#1 My first meeting with Roger was in August 1977 at the newly formed O&M Direct. My brief to him was to come up with something original for a response device for a British Airways campaign.Within 5 minutes he'd invented a route map based around an intriguing maze device for he'd commission a puzzle specialist. BA went bonkers on the idea, and Roger asked me to take a cheque to the young artist -a certain Mr. Giles Brandreth. This idea beat everything BA had ever done #2 Roger really got a kick out of shocking stuffy clients. He introduced American Express Cards to agame nobody had heard of called Nine Mens Morris-one in a series of typically obscure but original ideas for rocking the boat.Amex felt it was risky for their image but were persuaded to risk it.Roger's idea broke all records for sales leads for them. #3 In 1997 I came to his home and asked for another whoppa of a response device to launch a company in Germany. After several typical Roger comments and a good deal of mock German commentary he said -"let's give 'em a piece of space rock". Under a theme of 'win something out of this world',he made a phone call d (this was pre-Google)to a mate who knew a bloke that was flogging meteorites scraped up from the desert floor in Namibia (how the ,what the ,where did THAT come from?) Sure enough Roger delivered the goods ,and so popular was the contest we were inundated with offers to actually buy the bloody prizes He was class ,was Roger, a real genuine pro.and I've never enjoyed working with someone as much since.
